PROTECT AGAINST WATER ABSORPTION
PROTECT reduces concretes ability to absorb water
Concrete’s vein to absorb water is a major cause of its degradation and deterioration. Using its capillary network, water, chlorides and other harmful water-borne chemicals enter through the porous structure in the concrete. Therein, they expand, thus create pressure and eventually break or deteriorate the concrete.
We developed our PROTECT-concept specially in regards to this: The beginning of concrete’s degradation and deterioration. By creating a hydrophobic structure, concrete is prevented from absorption and thus encouraged to resist chemical and physical attack.
CASE STUDY
Two specimens are tested. One treated with PROTECT, one non-treated. Both specimens are being dried for 2 weeks and then water-bathed for 12 hours. The specimen treated with PROTECT absorbs 80% less water than the non-treated specimen.
