IMPREGNATING THE SURFACE
That's step neumber 3
Impregnating concretes surface completes the holistic protection concept in order to create durable concrete.
There are a several options for impregnating concrete’s surface and thus providing additional protection. All are applied either on the dry or the wet side of concrete production, but their working principle and the impact they have on concrete’s final appearance is different.
OPTION A: FILM_FORMING IMPREGNATING AGENT
Film-forming impregnating agents can provide an aesthetic finish, e.g. gloss, semi-gloss or matt shining and thus intensify the original concrete colour. This film seals the capillary pores and protects them from water and stain contamination.
OPTION B: NON-FILM-FORMING IMPREGNATING AGENTS
Non-film forming impregnating agents are invisible. Treated surface may turn slightly darker, but it should not be noticeable if the entire area is treated. The pores and capillaries are
internally coated and protected against the ingress of water, chlorides and other harmful water-borne chemicals.
